Heat Stroke: How to Tackle Exhaustion and Restlessness in Summer?

Welcome everyone, today we're going to learn about Heat Strokes. Summers are here and Rajasthan is no stranger to the harsh temperatures. The temperature is rising rapidly and heat waves are rampant in the state. With the changing environment, if you don't tread with caution, you could get a heat stroke on these harsh summer days. The human body is more prone to heat strokes when the temperature crosses the 40-degree Celsius mark.

Heat strokes are caused by staying in a hot environment for a long time. Normally, heatstroke happens when the body is drained of water, and salt and sweating stops. Dehydration makes the blood thicker and when the thick blood is circulated to your brain it creates a chain reaction and hampers brain functionality. The major symptoms of heatstroke are severe headache, dizziness, and no sweating. If you're also experiencing dry and hot skin, exhaustion, stiffness in muscles, vomiting, increase in heartbeat, restlessness, fainting, or trouble breathing, these could also be symptoms of heatstroke.

As soon as the symptoms arise, the patient should be taken to a hospital, if medical assistance is not nearby, keep the patient in a cool atmosphere and away from sunlight. If the patient is conscious, they should be given lots of water to make up for the scarcity of water in the body. Consume ORS as it makes up for the missing electrolytes in the body. In case ORS is not available, mix salt and sugar in a glass of water and drink it. If the patient is unconscious, they should be taken to the nearest medical facility so that they could be administered IV fluids.
