Living Legends of Medicine: Dr. N.K Mehra
Exemplary Leader Inspiring Young Minds
NIMS University had started a series called 'Living Legends of Medicine' since past years. This series invites exemplary and inspirational individuals who have undertaken ground-breaking research and excelled in the field of medical education to serve as role models to our students, young clinicians, and academicians. Also, senior academicians have the opportunity to brainstorm and discuss the recent research and everyday clinical activity with people of the same stature. This builds stronger clinical associations, builds reputation and confidence, and in general raising own profile and career.
Living Legends are renowned and experienced leaders, they possess great knowledge and experience and strive to educate the next generation of healthcare professionals, providing quality education to everyone regardless of their financial situation. They conduct innovative research to find cures and treatments to improve the quality of life for future generations.
Once again, to uphold the tradition, NIMS University organized another session of ‘Living Legends of Medicine’ to educate our students about the various aspects of organ transplantation and DNAtransplantation. NIMS University had the honour to host Dr. N.K Mehra, who is very accomplished and renowned in medicine and Mrs. Simi Singh, the chairperson of Arjan Vir Foundation for nearly three decades.
In the recent session of LLM, Dr. N.K.Mehra, an Indian immunologist, HOD Department of transplant immunology and immunogenetics, SRL Ltd. He is also renowned as the Ex-Dean (Research), AIIMS, he was also an Ex-professor and founding chair of the Department of Transplant Immunology and immunogenetics at AIIMS, New Delhi. He is also the recipient of the H.J. Mehta gold medal and the Shakuntala Amir Chand Prize of the ICMR & Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, one of the highest Indian science awards from CSIR.
Dr. N.K Mehra delivered a lecture on " Evolution of transplantation Immunology: special focus on solid organ transplantation" and later conducted a Q&A session with the students where he solved the various doubts and queries of our students and also motivated them to work hard and strive to become an accomplished doctor. Dr. Mehra shared his experience and knowledge with our students and faculties.
Another personality who enlightened our students and made an impression was Mrs. Simi Singh, the chairperson of the Arjan Vir Foundation. She shed some light on Arjan Vir Foundation and DNA Transplant. As the chairperson of her foundation, she spread awareness about DNA transplants and urged and motivated everyone to become a donor so they can help and reach people in need.
After the event, many of our students and faculties filled out the form and pledged to become a donor.
I am grateful to Dr. Mehra and Mrs. Simi Singh, who despite their busy schedule, allotted some time to enlighten and educate our students and it was a pleasure to host them at NIMS University.
